Make moisturizing your skin a priority this winter season

When the seasons change, so should your skincare routine.

That’s because the moisturizer you use in the summer may not be as effective to combat the winter’s frigid outdoor temperatures and dry indoor air.

What do experts recommend for the latter season?

“It is good to use a use a serum before you use a moisturizer during the winter months as most people are dehydrated in the winter,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.

And, she noted, the most beneficial hydration serum is one that contains hyaluronic acid, which helps attract moisture to the skin.

Another tip?

“Go a little bit heavier with your moisture in the winter months,” Malinowski said. “In the summer there is more moisture in the air so you can go lighter. Some people just use a serum by itself in the summer. During the winter you can use a heavier cream moisturizer at night when your skin repairs itself.”

Why does moisturizing matter?

Using the right one for your skin can not only help maintain its balance, said Malinowski, but it can help with the laxity of the skin.
