Three things to know about Botox

One of the most popular non-surgical treatments to help people look and feel better is Botox, the brand name for botulinium toxin. Wondering if the procedure is right for you? Here are three things to know about the wonders of Botox:

1. It can rejuvenate

Botox can help turn back the clock on your skin’s signs of aging. The injections are ideal for helping to smooth and minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around key areas of the face including frown lines, wrinkles in between the brows, and crow's feet.

2. It can redefine

Botox is used for a technique called the Nefertiti Lift, a gentle, non-surgical procedure which redefines the jawline and provides 'lifting' in the neck area. The inections can also be used to smooth upper-lip wrinkles, known as smoker's lines.

3. It can reduce sweating

Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, can also be controlled with the use of Botox when topical medicines do not work well enough. The non-invasive injections work by temporarily blocking chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When the sweat glands don't receive chemical signals, the severe sweating stops. BOTOX injections are expected to temporarily stop the production of excessive sweat in the treated areas only. Sweat continues to be produced elsewhere. Botox can be used for hands, feet and underarms for hyperhidrosis.

Whether Botox is used for medical or cosmetic purposes, repeat injections are an expected part of therapy. As an anti-aging treatment, Botox may take seven to 10 days to set after the first set of injections. Botox results can last three to four months initially.
