Want to get rid of those baby-fine, light-colored hairs on your face but not interested in waxing?

Consider a dermaplaning facial.

What is dermaplaning?

“It’s a scraping of the skin with a scalpel to remove the fine vellus hairs,” said Kathe Malinowski, lead esthetician and marketing manager for Eterna MedSpa & Laser Vein Center.

An added bonus? Dermaplaning also removes dead skin cells, making it an effective exfoliating procedure.

How is dermaplaning performed?

The skin is initially cleansed to remove dirt and oils, Malinowski said. A surgical blade is then used to lightly shave away that unwanted facial hair. The skin is cleansed once again and a hydrating mask is put on. Lastly, a moisturizer and SPF are applied.

Who is an ideal candidate for a dermaplaning facial?

“Anyone who has a lot of fine vellus hairs,” Malinowski said. “The only other option is to wax. Laser doesn't work for blonde fine hair.”

The painless and non-invasive treatment is generally done every four to six weeks, depending on how fast the hairs grow back.

Results will be immediately apparent.

“Clients will see the hair is gone and their skin is smooth,” Malinowski said.
